My Mustang Muktinath Bike Trip: A Journey I Will Never Forget

Mustang Trip on Bike | Exploring Mustang Nepal & Muktinath | VLOG by Bishal Lohane

Some journeys are remembered because of the destination. Others remain in our hearts because of everything we experience along the way.

For me, my Mustang and Muktinath bike trip in 2018 was one of those unforgettable journeys.

I traveled through the magnificent landscapes of Mustang with my friends on motorcycles. What began as an adventurous trip gradually became something much more meaningful—a journey of friendship, spirituality, struggle, perseverance and self-discovery

My Journey to Mustang

I had always been fascinated by the beauty and mystery of Mustang. The mountains, rugged roads, ancient settlements and unique landscapes create an atmosphere unlike anywhere else.

When I finally got the opportunity to travel there by motorcycle with my friends, I knew it would be an experience worth remembering.

The road was not easy.

There were steep climbs, rough roads, difficult stretches and moments when continuing forward required patience and courage. But that difficulty was also what made the journey special.

As I traveled higher into the mountains, I began to realize that the road to Mustang was teaching me something about life.

When the Road Became a Lesson

While riding through Mustang, I started comparing the difficult mountain roads with the challenges we face in our lives.

Sometimes the road is smooth. Sometimes it becomes steep, difficult and uncertain.

But if we stop every time the road becomes difficult, we will never reach our destination.

For me, Mustang became a symbol of perseverance.

Every difficult climb eventually leads to a summit.

The experience reminded me that success does not come without effort. We need courage to begin, patience to continue and determination to reach the destination.

Traveling With Friends

One of the greatest memories of this trip was experiencing Mustang with my friends.

We shared the road, food, laughter, difficulties and countless moments together. Traveling as a group created memories that I still remember today.

The journey included:

  • Kishmat Singh

  • Dilip Basel and his wife

  • Subash G.C. and his wife

  • Rajhav Majhi

  • Yogendra Shahi

  • Bharat RD

  • Bhuwan Gurung

  • Raj Gautam

  • Krishna Sunar

  • Anil Rasaily

  • Gautam Chhetri

  • and myself, Bishal Lohani

The people we travel with often become an important part of the story of a journey.

For me, this trip was not only about seeing Mustang. It was about sharing Mustang with friends.

My Experience of Muktinath

Our journey eventually took us toward Muktinath, one of the most important pilgrimage destinations in the region.

Reaching Muktinath gave the trip a completely different feeling.

After traveling through challenging mountain roads and experiencing the vast Himalayan landscape, arriving at this sacred place gave me an opportunity to pause, reflect and appreciate the journey.

Mustang showed me the power of nature.

Muktinath gave me a sense of spirituality.

Together, they made the journey much more than an ordinary bike trip.

Creating a Documentary With Mobile Phones

There is another special story behind this documentary.

We did not travel with a professional film crew or a large collection of filmmaking equipment.

During our journey in 2018 AD, my friends and I captured moments using multiple mobile phones.

Everyone contributed to recording the journey.

At the time, we were simply documenting our experiences. Later, I realized that these recordings contained something valuable—the authentic memories of our journey.

I brought those different recordings together and shaped them into a travel documentary.

For me, this project is also a reminder that filmmaking does not always require expensive equipment. Sometimes, a story, an experience and the desire to preserve a memory are enough to begin creating.

My Role in the Documentary

I was involved in several aspects of the production.

I conducted the research, developed the voiceover and narration, edited the recorded footage and directed the documentary.

My goal was not simply to show beautiful images of Mustang.

I wanted to communicate what the journey meant to me.

I wanted the audience to experience the road, the mountains, the friendship and the spiritual atmosphere—and hopefully take away a lesson from the journey.

What Mustang Taught Me

Looking back, I believe the greatest thing I brought home from Mustang was not a photograph or a video.

It was a lesson.

Life is also a journey.

There will be steep climbs.

There will be difficult roads.

There will be moments when we feel like turning back.

But if we continue with courage, patience, unity and hard work, eventually we can reach our own summit.

The Mustang journey reminded me that the destination is only one part of the story. The struggle, the people we meet and the memories we create along the way are equally important.

Why I Preserved This Journey

Years later, the footage from this journey has become more than travel footage for me.

It is a personal memory of a particular time in my life.

The mobile-phone recordings may not have the technical perfection of a professionally produced travel film, but they contain something I value more—authentic memories.

Every road, every mountain, every smile and every difficult moment takes me back to that journey.

That is why I decided to preserve the experience as a documentary.

My Mustang Journey

When I think about Mustang today, I don't remember only the mountains.

I remember the road.

I remember my friends.

I remember the challenges.

I remember reaching Muktinath.

And most importantly, I remember what the journey taught me.

Sometimes, we have to travel far from home to understand something about ourselves.

My Mustang–Muktinath bike trip was one of those journeys.

It began as a motorcycle adventure with friends, but it became a journey of friendship, endurance, spirituality and personal reflection—a chapter of my life that I will always remember.
